TURTLE LAKE
IMPROVEMENT AND PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION (TLA)
MINUTES OF
MEETING – 11/16/02
President
Cheryl Mitacek opened the meeting. The
minutes of the 5/4/02 meeting were approved.
Lake
Watch –
Mary Baas learned from Pam Paul that the listing on the Grossman property,
zoned C-1 Hunting/Conservancy, expired 6/02.
List price was $82,000. Mary and
Beth Auer will get additional details – plat map of available property, DNR
interface and dollars available, etc.
They will also check the ownership status of the McIntyre property.
Lake Monitoring - Dick Gronert reported that two (2) water tests show no presence of zebra mussels. Turtle Lake is in good shape physically compared to many WI lakes. The lake is well balanced, has some open waterfront, and has no river inlet to carry pollutants. For information, clear cutting is prohibited within 35 ft. of the ordinary high water mark. The ordinary high water mark can be located from water marks on rocks and plants. Contact Dick if you would like assistance in locating your high water mark.
WI
Assn. of Lakes (WAL) - Cheryl read a letter from WAL requesting donations to pay
dockominium legal fees to WAL attorney Bill O’Connor. Elaine Gronert gave a summary of WAL activities – newsletter,
dockominium opposition, gas tax allocation to WI lakes, and annual and regional
meetings. At their graduation, Lake
Leadership Crew IV was challenged to complete a final “legacy” project. At Elaine’s suggestion, each crew member
will collect $100 to be donated to WAL.
It was suggested that the donations Dick and Elaine receive from TLA
members could be earmarked for the WAL legal fund. Donations to WAL are tax
deductible. This information will go into the next newsletter.
Eurasian
Milfoil -
Cheryl and others attended a preliminary Richmond Township budget meeting to
ask that funds be budgeted for possible 2003 milfoil spraying. We will need to request a specific amount
prior to any spraying.
Educational
Materials –
Clark Hallberg bought a clear-front container to hold educational materials and
suggested that we place two at each boat landing – one for boat
cleaning/exotics information and the other for the current TLA newsletter. Chuck Oswald will donate additional boxes
for this purpose and Elaine will fill them.
Each box will be labeled on the top.
Water
Level –
Some residents have observed that, over the past 5 to 8 years, the water level
appears to be getting lower. Dick gave
a 9/23/02 DNR Report citing possible causes.
Following discussion, it was decided that the “Water Level” committee
should review and make further recommendations.
The
president adjourned the meeting.
