Dark·Heritage - Races
All of the contents of this document are designated open content.
- Human; one extra feat at first level, 1 extra skill point at each
level (4 at first), base speed 30 ft, Medium sized. Humans of Riven
come in a variety of different styles.
More detail about specific cultures forthcoming.
- Sander; bred to find sources of water in the arid, dusty conditions that followed the Rending, but
their skills are useful in a wide variety of situations. Scent feat at
1st level, +2 WIS, -2 INT, +2 to Wilderness Lore skill
checks, base speed 30 ft., medium sized. They have tough, dry, skin of a dusky reddish brown color that seals itself well against
water loss. They also
have a nictating membrane that can cover their eyes to prevent dust
contamination, thin, small ears, a small flat nose with small nostrils
and small mouths that can be plugged by other interior mucous membrance
also to prevent dust contamination while traveling in the wilderness. Sanders are tall, have black hair and yellow eyes. Sanders have low light vision as elves in the PHB.
- Hulk; bred to be hard workers, large, possibly even intelligent but
not terribly independent. +2 STR, +2 CON, -2 DEX, -2 CHA, -2 WIS,
lowlight vision, Damage Resistance equal to CON 1/- at first level regardless of class, increasing to 2/- at 5th character level, 3/- at 10th character level, 4/- at 15th character level and 5/- at 20th character level. Hulks are taller and broader than
regular humans in general, with a reddish, coarse, almost furlike
covering over their body. They were bred to work non-stop, even through
the frigid nights, and can operate very well in darkness and cold. Their skin is dark gray or black, as are their eyes.
- Mannikin; bred to be beautiful, did not appear to have a practical
purpose. Amongst humans and near-humans, though, they are very
persuasive and political. -2 STR, -2 CON, +2 DEX, +2 CHA, +2 racial
bonus to all Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate and Sense Motive checks, speed
30 ft, medium sized. The mannikins are tall and thin, with pale, skin
and lustrous white hair, and silver-chrome eyes. They have a fine bone
structure, making them not particularly suited to heavy musculature, but
are very agile, having performed for the ancient Breeders millenia ago.
- Gray; +2 INT, -2 WIS. The grays were not only the working level
scientists and supervisors, they were also the Headmen and "Secret"
Police during the reign of the Breeders many ages ago. Even today, most
other races feel uncomfortable around them, they get a -1 on Diplomacy
checks, but a +1 on Intimidate and Sense Motive checks. Grays have also been conditioned to various types of "spycraft" and have been bred to have darkvision with a range of 60'. The grays are somewhat short and
slight, with chalky gray skin and dark hair, and with rasping,
whispering voices. They are also quick and somewhat twitchy, but their base speed is 40 ft./round.
