On page 210, Lisa Cartwright tells us that Tom Gunning has made a case for a genre of early cinema, which he calls a "cinema of attractions." This offers us a bridge between the scientific early use of "moving pictures" to the cinema as entertainment. He suggests that this form of surveillance gaze: "The sneeze perfectly suits physiology's interest in documenting the changes that occur in a physiological process.
