Amy Bock, a lesbian in New Zealand in the early part of the 20th century, spent 2 years in prison at "hard labor" for dressing as a man in order to marry a woman. She was convicted of fraud, labeled a "habitual criminal," and served her sentence in a male prison. "She had a haircut like a man, and wore men's boots"
